What is an iPod

Does anyone remember the original Walkman, lol, no one under 20 that’s Apple iPods for sure. Thanks to Apple, we’ve come a long way from those days, and they have literally revolutionized music-on-the-go with the invention of the iPod.

Basically an iPod is a portable device that stores audio files called mp3’s. The iPod, depending on the model's storage capacity can hold thousands of music tracks, and is a tiny and pocket-sized little gadget, which makes it super portable and easy to carry around wherever you go. The Apple iPod has a distinct style, like the rolling click wheel music track selector, and tiny ear bud earphones, and of course Apple's famous touch screen menu and music selection navigation that comes with the iPod Touch.

The iPod is perfect for on-the go entertainment, it's like having a mobile dj, whether you are walking, driving, on the subway, working out or just about anywhere that you wish to listen to your favorite tunes, or watch a video.

There is no radio functionality on the iPod but there are accessories called FM transmitters that provide for radio tuning on the iPod. There are also iPod video models where you can watch video and movies, those include, the iPod Touch and the iPod Classic.

There are lots of other iPod accessories that make it a truly on demand music gadget, such as the iPod car cassette adapters that play all your iPod music on your car stereo.

Most iPod users get their music downloads from the Apple iTunes Apple Video iPodsservice that has millions of songs available for download. There are other services available that can be synced with the iPod, such as Napster and Rhapsody.
But the iPod is so much more than a music player...

The Classic and Touch models of iPod can play hours of video, store photos and there are tons of apps that make the iPod much more useful.

While there are other portable mp3 players around, the iPod is by far the most popular and sought after in the market.

The Apple iPod comes in many different colors and models with a variety of features. Learn more about iPod Models and Features Guide.
