Headphones for iPods: Which type is the Best?

With today’s technology, you would think that choosing headphones would be very simple, in fact, why can’t you just go into a store and grab a set of cheap headphones and use them? That would be it, a ten minute job and you are out the door enjoying your favorite music. You can walk in the park or your neighborhood or you could sit at home and listen with the same pair of headphones, right?

Well, apparently you can’t and now we will give a little background on headphone reviews and investigate how one may go about locating and choosing the correct headphones for what you want to do with them. The two types of head phone technology are dynamic headphones and electrostatic headphones. The first is the woofer and tweeter type that is the old school type cheap headphones that work like speakers do on a sound system. The latter are the best ones ever simply because they use a thin gold sheath that vibrate when sound hits them.

So, which headphones are for you? First, before you can decide, you must ask yourself some key questions.

1. Are you listening to the music at home?

2. Will you be plugged into the sound system?

3. Will you be exercising or walking outside with the music?

4. Will you be commuting to work or school listening to the music?

So let’s look at these scenarios for a moment and see which set of headphones is the best for each one.

1. Listening to music at home: for this, there is no need for expensive headphones unless you have a sound room for professional recording purposes you do not need anything too fancy like dj headphones. You should use the dynamic style woofer and tweeter headphones. You shouldn’t go with a dollar pair but twenty bucks is best unless you are in a particularly noisy house and need outside noise canceling headphones.

2. Being plugged into a sound system is the same as thee above, unless you are canceling out house noises, a cheap pair of dynamic headphones is fine.

3. If you are walking or exercising outside or inside with the headphones you have to take into consideration noise cancellation but high definition and weight. The recommendation here is the electrostatic. Now these are light weight so you can move without having them fall off your ears and slip down ruining your workout. They can set you back over fifty but more likely a hundred or more.

4. For the office commute, either one is recommended depending on how much of a music fanatic you are. This means that if you are just wasting time on the bus or train then the cheapest dynamic is good. Of you are more than a hobbyist, you need a definite noise cancellation pair of headphones. Also, the durability is in question here because your headphones will be manhandled a bit more than if you were just home.
